Hodgepodge Christmas

I stand back and gaze at my tree.

It’s quite a hodgepodge…

sagging branches,

wadded strings of lights,

broken ornaments,

hand-made wonders,

crooked star.

On the skirt, beneath those sagging branches,

a strange assortment displayed…

gifts I chose for them

and those they chose for me.

This is a time when less truly is more,

and it all is enough.

My heart is overflowing,

just being here in this magical craze.
